BYD, the Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, will present its new “kei-car” during the 2025 Japan Mobility Show, which will take place in Tokyo starting October 30.

Although it hasn’t revealed many details, BYD released a teaser of its upcoming Light EV — an image showing a car with an ultra-boxy design, typical of the popular kei-cars, the compact vehicles that are a huge success in Asia.

BYD stated that the car will comply with Japan’s “exclusive lightness standard” and will feature some of the brand’s proprietary technologies. According to Car Magazine, it is expected that BYD’s Light EV will use the same blade battery technology found in the rest of its lineup.

During the Mobility Show, BYD also plans to showcase a range of commercial vehicles, including several buses, such as the J6, which also functions as a mobile office.

BYD further announced that its electric supercar, the Yangwang U9, will also “dance on stage” three times a day. “The entire booth is buzzing during dance time. Experience the powerful performance synchronized with the music,” said the company’s press statement.
